Pinggiran Ramadan is a family drama that shares the loneliness of the empty-nesters. It tackles the issues of what the elderly faces once their grown up children start to build careers, get married, have children and finally move out of their nest.
An elderly couple (Pak Wahab and Mak Munah) feels lonely after their grown up children move out from the house one by one, leaving only the two of them alone.
This loneliness is especially felt when Pak Wahab has just retired from his job as a civil servant a few weeks before Ramadan. And Mak Munah misses having the sounds of her granddaughter filling the air before she is taken to live in her new home.
A young man (Mamat) has his flat repossessed by the bank after failing to pay the monthly loan. Mamat, his wife Sanisah, and their two children are renting a 3-room unit near the elderly couples’ flat.
The young family and the elderly couple find solace and comfort in one another. However, trouble comes when Pak Wahab’s children accuse Mamat of taking advantage of their parents’ kindness.
