Singapore is a cosmopolitan society where people live harmoniously and interaction among different races is commonly seen. The pattern of Singapore stems from the inherent cultural diversity of the island.
The immigrants have given the place a fusion of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and European influences, all of which have intermingled.
Although each of these cultures has remained true to their origins and community structures, they have also blended together to create Singapore’s uniquely diverse heritage.
The Singapore Malay culture is just one of the many cultures that have developed through the centuries. It encompasses the general traditions, beliefs and behaviour of the Malay people and to understand the Malay culture is to understand the reasons
behind their way of life and why they act as they do. It also uncovers whether some rituals are still relevant and practiced in today’s society.
Budaya 360 are helmed by two hosts from different generations and they discover the significance of certain rituals and taboos in the Malay culture and find out the scientific and medical support substantiating some of the rites that are still practiced today and those that are relevant and still practiced today.
Through interviews with various experts, the hosts will also be exploring different art forms and visiting areas in Singapore that are simply seeped with the Malay tradition.
